300+ TRAINED FAMILY OF OPTOMTRIC MEMBERS

The Family of Optometric Mentors (FOM) is a distinguished community of experienced optometrists in Nigeria, committed to elevating the standards of eye care through structured mentorship and professional development. An FOM mentor is a highly trained and accomplished optometrist who has completed the Family Mentoring Program and is dedicated to providing one-on-one guidance, clinical training, and continuous support to fellow optometrists.

Mentors offer expertise across comprehensive ophthalmic modules and advanced clinical practice, helping mentees enhance both their knowledge and hands-on proficiency. Mentors are carefully selected based on their demonstrated clinical excellence, mastery of advanced optometric instrumentation, and depth of general clinical knowledge. Their primary responsibility is to empower mentees with up-to-date clinical competencies, shaping them into confident and capable eye care professionals.

Upon successful completion of the program, mentees are encouraged to transition into mentor roles, thereby sustaining the cycle of mentorship and contributing to the continuous growth of the FOM community.

We learn to teach, and we teach to learn. MENTORS improve themselves to improve others. MENTEES, in turn, improve themselves by improving others. We raise Optometric mentors who are dedicated and committed to improving their colleagues and the profession at large to a global competence. We are saddled with the responsibility of bridging the lacuna between the local and international standard of practice through training, equipping, and personal development with a focus on the knowledge of the use of advanced or ultramodern instrumentation and clinical and practice management. We are dynamic in our teaching and learning approach.

Today, FOM has reached out to over 3000 optometrists, supported social ventures and upgraded e-care practices. Through her unique methods of experiential clinical training and mentorship, FOM has helped young and old optometrists become better eye-care professionals. FOM also leads a community of vibrant.
