EXCEPTIONAL OPTOMETRIC MENTORS

Founded on October 4th, 2014, the Family of Optometric Mentors (FOM) was established with a clear vision: to empower Nigerian optometrists with cutting-edge clinical knowledge and skills. Through hands-on, experiential training, FOM is transforming the landscape of optometric care in Nigeria by developing highly skilled professionals and cultivating a thriving ecosystem of mentors dedicated to clinical excellence and the fight against avoidable blindness.

Since its inception in Abuja with fewer than five mentors, FOM has grown exponentially. Today, it operates across more than 20 states, boasting a dynamic network of over 70 active, seasoned mentors and approximately 150 aspiring mentors. To date, FOM has trained over 3,000 optometrists and has played a pivotal role in upgrading eye care practices across the country. FOM continues to lead with purpose, bridging the gap in optometric expertise and shaping the future of eye care in Nigeria.

FOM Vision

To focus interest on advanced/ modern instrumentations and clinical practice. To develop standard and structured optometric programs that would assist optometrists in better managing their practices. To help individual optometrist define and meet goals in order to deliver eyecare more efficiently and effectively. To help individual optometrist improve their practice management and develop life skills. To help decrease optometrist's feelings of isolation or abandonment. To help increase mentor's confidence and commitment and also provide that full sense of fulfillment for optometric mentee.
